For a reason or reasons too far above my limited understanding, My lord’s turned ur face away from me… closed ur ears to my words and put a veil over my face and body lest u be taken by what I’d have u see… because I know at least this much, it’s senseless to be mad at u… instead it’s incumbent upon me to be grateful to him… for he either spared u or spared me perhaps something fiercely terrible by making my male beauty a wretched or invisible thing to u… but he sees what we cannot… For all I see is ur brown attractive face… ur long and black well kept hair, and pleasing to the eye, pleasure promising body and i forget all of my own sensibility. While perhaps what he sees is me abandoning all reason and goodness for a meaningless night ride burning down a highway into hell and complete madness, all behind an uncontrolled human urge. So, Thanks for telling me no, my little miss coke bottle bodied princess…and thank u My Maker for allowing me to know that I’ll be given better anyway by not hating her for the rejection… Real men walk away from failure with victory chains around their necks because of their dignified attitudes. Some bird’s feathers are just too bright and colorful to be caged up in the darkness anyway… PR

I am a walking contradiction of traditions some say. An African American and Native American Muslim poet with a personal life history as violently turbulent as a Storm. A visionary from the bottom of life’s social barrel striving to share the hope found in the light of faith through sometimes dark but real poetry. I’m a former member of the Bloods street gang, former serial bank robber, and both federal/state prison convict. I live on my mother’s tribal reservation of the Leech Lake band of Ojibwe in Minnesota.
