Our purpose in regards to how we’re to mold ourselves morally according to what what’s been revealed of his sublime attributes. To strive to reflect his immeasurable qualities with our minds, our hearts, and even our bodies. Made in his image… mercy, patience, love, fortitude, forgiveness, and strength of will… Truth…to see it, to hear it, and to respond to it… to be caretakers over each other, even as he takes care of us. To be responsible for ourselves and others, even as we are his responsibility. To strive to be honorable and live praise worthy lives even as he is honorable and praise worthy. Allah is not weak… we are… but even so, we must strive to be strong by exercising our power of choice towards only that which benefits and away from that which harms.

I am a walking contradiction of traditions some say. An African American and Native American Muslim poet with a personal life history as violently turbulent as a Storm. A visionary from the bottom of life’s social barrel striving to share the hope found in the light of faith through sometimes dark but real poetry. I’m a former member of the Bloods street gang, former serial bank robber, and both federal/state prison convict. I live on my mother’s tribal reservation of the Leech Lake band of Ojibwe in Minnesota. View more posts
