My wish… That this one prayer be answered, that because of what’s been put in me of what many call madness, u command when it’s my turn to stand before u alone that I be allowed to pass because of what I’ve tried my best to do here thinking of only u and this inevitable meeting between us. I bear witness. That U made me alone. U fed me alone. U sheltered me alone. And U guided me alone…with no helpers or partners by ur side. I’m not a judge over the people, but amongst the masses who associate others in ur divinty who are themselves created as thier worshippers are, I am of those who reject calling upon, hoping in, or fearing any other besides u. No holy man, prophet, ancestor, or spirit can intercede or save me from u and ur rejection of me if my actions which sprang from my own heart are found by u to be fraudulent in ur perfect knowledge. I find there is no good here except the tasks u’ve laid out for us to do while we live and breathe… So please oh my Maker, I cannot speak for the rest, let them call upon and hope in whom or what they will. My longing is in u.. so let me pass…

I am a walking contradiction of traditions some say. An African American and Native American Muslim poet with a personal life history as violently turbulent as a Storm. A visionary from the bottom of life’s social barrel striving to share the hope found in the light of faith through sometimes dark but real poetry. I’m a former member of the Bloods street gang, former serial bank robber, and both federal/state prison convict. I live on my mother’s tribal reservation of the Leech Lake band of Ojibwe in Minnesota.
