One of the most intimately personal things Tupac said that I refuse to part with and in which I strive to fill the shoes of in my own life is this… “ I’d rather die like a man, then live like a coward!”…what it means to me isnt the machismo coloring of a violent and defiant personality type, but the directing of a man in tune with his own heart’s intention of forcing himself to abandon the following of the crowd and forging his own destiny through raw honest grit, and belief in the active, educating, and helping hand of His Maker, sustainer, and Almighty guardian lord. I don’t need the green light from any man born of a woman to go my own way… although true uniqueness belongs to the creator alone, the number “One” is the most mystical of numbers. Of all the people that ever were there was no other me…and once I pass and return to our source there never will be again…cowards fear there own faces being seen by the ever judging eyes of others… so they live wearing masks… counterfeit people… Im looking at my bearded brown face now… I’m looking myself right in the eyes…and I’m smiling…

I am a walking contradiction of traditions some say. An African American and Native American Muslim poet with a personal life history as violently turbulent as a Storm. A visionary from the bottom of life’s social barrel striving to share the hope found in the light of faith through sometimes dark but real poetry. I’m a former member of the Bloods street gang, former serial bank robber, and both federal/state prison convict. I live on my mother’s tribal reservation of the Leech Lake band of Ojibwe in Minnesota.
